Dear Parents,
The end of the school year is fast approaching and with it come the various activities that signal the onset of summer. Spring conferences, Mother’s Day, late evenings, and sunburned noses all herald the end of our year together.
The month of May takes most classes outside. Ms. Loretta and Ms. Miranda will dive into the many shapes that make up the world around us. They will explore individual shapes as well as what can be made when we put the shapes together. Get ready for lots of fun, food, games, books, and crafts to reinforce the shape of the day!!
The three-year-olds anticipate the warm weather and investigate spring. They’ll look at plants, bugs, and ants, perhaps even a worm or two – all the creepy crawlies that are starting to emerge in their world. The three’s growing awareness of their world is fascinating and delightful to watch.
Our four-year-olds will study Dr. Seuss and his zany characters. The Cat in the Hat and all his friends ─ Thigwick, Bartholomew Cubbins, Horton, and Yertle become our vehicles for learning. Rhymes, math, crafts, and songs all focus on Seuss themes during these last days. The children have a grand time with all of this while an incredible amount of learning takes place.
Our Pre-K class hits the trail as they learn about horses, the different types and parts of one of man’s oldest animal friends. Letter and number recognition as well as phonics instruction continue on an individual basis.
Kindergarten has an exciting month. Ms. Garlow children learn about the stages of plant development, butterfly development, and frog development using a complete hands-on approach. The kindergarten room becomes a laboratory where seeds sprout; caterpillars spin cocoons, and tadpoles metamorphize into frogs.
May 23rd is conference day. Those of you enrolled in our all-day program may leave your children as usual. If you are unable to make your scheduled conference, please let your child’s teacher know. If you didn’t receive a conference schedule or have misplaced yours, please contact the school.
As the weather turns warm, many children sunburn. Remember to apply sunscreen before they come to school. Virginia considers sunscreen a medication that needs to be signed-in and locked-up. Please do not let your child carry it around in his or her book bag. Parents, you are expected to apply sunscreen before your child comes to school. If your child stays past 1pm and we have a signed permission note, we will apply more in the afternoon. Reminder: Limited spaces still available for summer camp. Don’t miss out on the fun! See Jackie or Elizabeth to register today!!
Sincerely,
Jackie
